Format conversion
Image Format Converter
Convert between JPEG, PNG, and WebP in one click — processed locally, downloaded instantly.
Your files never leave your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or seen by us.
How it works
Your image is decoded into an in-memory canvas, then re-encoded into the format you pick using the browser's native canvas.toBlob() API — the same underlying mechanism as our Image Compressor. No file is ever sent over the network.
Frequently asked questions
- Which formats can I convert between?
- JPEG, PNG, and WebP, in any direction. These are the three formats every modern browser can both decode and re-encode natively through the Canvas API, which is what powers this tool without a server.
- Can I convert a HEIC photo from my iPhone?
- Not reliably. HEIC decoding isn't built into most desktop browsers' Canvas APIs, so this tool can't read HEIC files directly. If your photo is already HEIC, export it to JPEG first (most photo apps, including iOS's own share sheet, offer this) and then convert from there.
- Why would I convert PNG to JPEG, or the reverse?
- PNG to JPEG typically shrinks file size significantly for photos, at the cost of PNG's lossless quality and any transparency (transparent areas become white). JPEG to PNG is useful when you need lossless quality or need to add transparency in an image editor afterward.
- Is quality lost when converting?
- Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPEG or WebP applies compression, which can introduce minor artifacts — though at the quality level this tool uses, it's rarely noticeable for typical photos.
- Is my image uploaded to convert it?
- No. The conversion happens entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your file never leaves your device.
