QR codes

QR Code Reader & Generator

Drop in an image to decode a QR code, or type text to create a new one — both happen entirely in your browser.

Your files never leave your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or seen by us.

How it works

Reading a code draws your image onto an in-memory canvas and hands the raw pixel data to the open-source jsQR library, which locates and decodes the QR pattern locally. Generating a code uses the open-source qrcode library to render your text directly to an image in your browser. Neither direction involves a server.

Frequently asked questions

How does the QR code reader work without a server?
The image is read directly in your browser, and the open-source jsQR library scans the pixel data locally to locate and decode the QR pattern. No image or decoded content is ever sent anywhere.
Why didn't it find a QR code in my image?
Common causes are a blurry or low-resolution photo, a QR code that's too small or cropped in the frame, or heavy glare on a printed code. Try a clearer, more square-on photo of just the code.
Can I generate a QR code for a Wi-Fi network or contact card, not just a URL?
You can paste any text into the generator, including the special formatted strings phones recognize for Wi-Fi (WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;;) or contact cards (vCard format) — the QR code itself just encodes whatever text you give it.
Is the QR code I generate stored anywhere?
No. It's rendered directly in your browser as an image you can download. Nothing is uploaded or logged.
